It's A Small World

atomic jax small world skirt

I find myself uttering, "what a small world!" at least once a week. It really, really is. Which makes me love the Disney ride all the more. In my eyes, the only bad thing about the It's A Small World ride is that I don't live closer to it! So when Jackie from Atomic Jax asked if I'd like to review her "Small World" skirt, I leapt at the chance. At least I can pretend I'm only a hop, skip, and a jump away – if only the world were that small!

This design is a collaboration between Jackie and artist John Varvir. I really love both the print and fabric, which is a nice weight and retains its stiffness really nicely. Best of all, the skirt fits me really well (and is a great match for this Heart of Haute Estelle blouse!). This design comes in two different colorways and can also be made into dresses, if you're not a fan of separates. In fact, Jackie can make virtually any custom order. I'll be forever swooning over her Disney bed sheet dresses!

How great is this vintage Disney box purse, by the way? The moment I saw it, I knew I had to scoop it up. There's even an official tag inside (it was sold at the Disney World Contemporary Hotel in the 1970s!). I had to go all out with the Disney accessories on this one, and my Mickey brooch from Match Accessories was the perfect final touch.

For the Roses

gingham rose dress unique vintage

The roses had perfect timing this year: they're all in bloom just in time for me to wear this Unique Vintage dress! I love how they managed to combine two of my favorite kinds of prints – florals and gingham – into one with this design. The fabric is comfy and provides quite a bit of stretch (I probably could have worn my normal size instead of sizing up), and the little button details are so darling. Plus (as of this writing), it's 25% off! It'd be such a great dress for a garden party... I may have to throw one just to give myself another excuse to wear it!

Temperatures are heating up around here and I've found myself itching to have a bit of a break. As much as I love my job, I'm definitely going to be taking advantage of some vacation days soon. These weekends haven't felt long enough to truly recharge. That said, I'm VERY glad I'm able to have more flexibility with my work schedule these days. I'm hoping the weather cooperates this week so I can sneak away for an afternoon and go strawberry picking!

Mahjong Tiles

Trashy Diva may have just launched their newest collection, Birds of a Feather, but I'm still stuck on a slightly older print that I've come to like a lot. I styled one of the Mahjong print skirts back in the fall, but I had forgotten to order up a size and the skirt didn't get much wear as a result. I decided to try the Annette dress in this print (which just restocked on the Trashy Diva site!), and I'm so glad I did.

I actually ordered a size up from what I've been recently buying at TD in this print. Cotton voile is a fantastic summer fabric because it's so lightweight, but there's virtually no stretch to it whatsoever. Having wiggle/eating room is important to me, so if you're between sizes, I'd personally suggest sticking to the size chart. I'm definitely planning on bringing this dress with me when Ashley and I go down to NOLA later this summer!

This past weekend was a lot of fun. I went to the market, went to a pool party with friends from work, and watched the Tony Awards. But it was also really weird/sad. My entire swimsuit collection is just gone (we've looked everywhere at my apartment and at my parents' house) and I'm pretty upset about it. I spent years collecting really hard-to-find, amazing suits that can't be replaced – literally, since they aren't made anymore – and I'm not really sure what to do now other than be sad. I know they're just clothes in the end and there are far more important things. I'm trying to keep some perspective, but they also meant something to me. I guess I'm going to have to gather up more things to sell so I can afford to get at least a couple of new suits this summer. What else can you do but try to start anew?

Lilacs and Violets

retrospec'd norma jean sweet violet dress

There are a few reasons I'm so excited to finally share these photos today: 1) I'm obsessed with this Retrospec'd dress 2) these photos capture my favorite time of year (lilac time!) and 3) I got the chance to shoot with my friend Emma, whose photos I've included among my own. Not only is Emma a great photographer, but she's become a dear friend since she was hired as one of our content writers. She's truly wonderful to work with and I can't wait to do more with her this summer. Be sure to check out the Emma Rizzo Photo website for more of her work!

It's official: I have a new favorite retro reproduction brand. Retrospec'd has some of the highest quality dresses I've seen in a long time, and their prints are to die for. I actually received this dress as a Christmas present from my mom, but I decided to save it for the spring. It's quickly become one of my favorite dresses and now I'm on a mission to get my hands on as much Retrospec'd as possible!
